I’m so incredibly amazed right now. I remember watching this man in a silly YouTube comedy 7 years ago, and I was blown away by his talent. I never would have dreamed that I’d be standing next to him one day, utterly humbled not only by that talent, but also by his patience and generosity. Thank you for the conversation, the autograph, and most importantly, the hug. I’m so happy to see you so successful. Have an amazing closing show tomorrow. 💛

He kept trying to tell people not to take selfies, and I was completely fine with that, content with just interaction. But then when literally everyone in line asked for a selfie, he looked at me and asked if I wanted one too. I didnt, but I mean. He offered and had already grabbed Victoria’s ( @using-the-force ) phone. It was incredibly sweet of him, and I’m very grateful!

Highlight of the show for me was literally all of it. Wednesday matinée show, the crowd was full of people over the age of fifty and it was hilarious seeing Hedwig in a crowd like that. He made a joke, just before the Sarah Jessica Parka joke, about feeling “like Harry…. Potter” and the 10% of us in the audience absolutely lost it. In the beginning, he slipped hopping down to sit on the edge of the stage for the ‘groaning planks’ and made jokes about ‘currently being supported- or not supported’.

I’m so grateful for this entire trip. I’m the farthest away from home that I’ve ever been, and it’s been one of the best weeks of my life ❤

This is a long one, but I started to record him when he was a few people ahead of me. Just love how personal he is with everyone out there. So happy I was able to string a few sentences together! And that “swag” was a few pins on my jacket - a Hedwig one and another from Listen Up Tour. I’m just so shocked and how amazing this was. Still freaking out. Best birthday ever for sure! (And shout out to my birthday twin in this video, minus four years! Hope you get to do some drinking for your 21st tomorrow.)

My brother and I came in to San Francisco on Monday morning specifically to see this man in Hedwig again after being totally blown away by his Broadway turn. We hit up the show Tuesday night and sat in the second row, to which we loved but left saying it was such a different feeling than the Broadway experience.

We headed out to the stage door where it was packed with people and patiently waited. We met Tim and Matt from the band, we met the amazingly talented and equally as amazingly beautiful, Lena Hall. We also got Sugar Daddies from Mason, who is such a charming guy! Darren came out and gave his spiel about wanting to meet everyone and not do pictures. Apparently people were asking anyway because he had to say it multiple times and seemed to be getting annoyed by the constant asking. When he got to us, we kept our conversation short, talking about being from Nashville and seeing the show in NYC last year and how much we enjoyed his performance. He hugged both of us, thanked us for coming and we left, heading back through the Tenderloin to our hotel.

Fast forward to Wednesday afternoon. We sat in the front row of this show, and this was probably the best Hedwig I’ve experienced. I didn’t laugh as much as I did my first few times seeing it, but I felt emotionally connected to this show, even crying multiple times at the pain of Hedwig and Yitz. We got splashed with water, hit with Tomato juice, all in all a rocking time.

Heading out to the stage door, we noticed that not many people were there this time and I felt like that would be a good thing. It didn’t take Darren long to come out, but he switched his way of walking the line, which meant my brother and I would be last to talk with him.

When he sidled up to us, he gave us a hilariously put-on Southern drawled, “Well if it ain’t Nashville…” to which we laughed and told him how much we loved the show this afternoon. He replied that “You never know with matinee crowds, so thanks for bringing it from the front row!” We chatted more and he took some pictures with us. Before he left, I asked him if he would record something for my son. We’d gone to see him in The Little Mermaid and my son wanted to come to Hedwig, but he’s 5 so I didn’t bring him. After multiple attempts, one in which my phone rang and he answered, he recorded a really nice message that ended up making my son’s day. Someone walked up as we were finishing, and he quickly signed things for them. I shouted out a “Thanks Darren!” And he turned around and replied, “Thanks Katie! Bye Kyle!” Which, I know is stupid, but capped off our encounter.

Long story short (yeah, long story short), Hedwig is still a great show, even though it does feel different than when it was in NYC, and Darren Criss is a perfect ray of sunshine who actually does care about his fans in a genuine way. All in all, great trip!
